I’m Angelique
I’m a South African, and together with my family, we unexpectedly – within just two months, found ourselves living in the serene countryside of Austria.
At first, being here felt so surreal. This picture-perfect village has always been our holiday destination, as my husband’s roots are from here. Adjusting to the new culture, language, and weather – a new life, left us all feeling like elephants in a snowstorm. To say that the move and adjustment have been easy would be like trying to catch lightning in a bottle. The unfamiliarity of it all is what takes time to get used to.
With three young boys, two teenagers, and a nine-ager who thinks he rules the roost, there’s always a flurry of meals to prepare to tame their ever-hungry tummies. Pairing my love for baking with the daily need to feed the boys inspired me to share my passion for baking and the classic tastes of South Africa. I fondly remember my Ouma’s kitchen always filled with freshly baked food. From rusks, fudge, milk tart, even home brewed ginger beer, and so much more, my Ouma was always creating something in the kitchen. This passion for baked creations was passed to my Mom and aunt. Thankfully, it was passed to me too!
